Although mature, older cats who spend time outdoors continue to have a higher level of activity. To maintain health and vigour, changing energy requirements must be taken into account. These energy requirements tend to increase with age because the digestive system becomes less efficient.

Cats over 7 years of age are more prone to kidney disorders, and their natural defences become less effective. The effects of ageing may start to be felt in the joints since they have been stressed throughout the life of outdoor cats.
